Java Software Developer

Location: Cambridgeshire (Hybrid/On-site options available)

About the Role

Ventrix is working with an ambitious and fast-growing SME based in Cambridgeshire that is looking to hire an experienced Java Software Developer. This is an exciting opportunity to join a business in a strong growth phase, where you’ll play a key role in designing, building, and scaling innovative software solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Design, develop, and maintain high-quality Java applications
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product, QA, and DevOps
Contribute to system architecture and technical decision-making
Write clean, scalable, and well-documented code
Participate in code reviews and continuous improvement processes
Troubleshoot, debug, and upgrade existing systems

Required Skills & Experience

Strong commercial experience with Java (Java 8+)
Experience with frameworks such as Spring / Spring Boot
Solid understanding of RESTful APIs and microservices architecture
Familiarity with databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL)
Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git)
Knowledge of Agile/Scrum methodologies

Desirable Skills

Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
Exposure to Docker / Kubernetes
Understanding of CI/CD pipelines
Frontend experience (e.g., JavaScript frameworks) is a bonus
